  • • A tube buffered series effects loop is provided along with a return level control (power section master volume) to allow interfacing with a wide variety of effects devices. The loop circuit and return level control are only in the signal path when cables are connected to the effects loop.
The individual channel master level controls act as effects send levels and the return level control then acts as an overall master volume when the loop is used. The effects send jack is always active and is useful as a low impedance preamp section line out.
  • • 4-5881 power tubes with a custom designed output transformer.
  • • Worldwide line voltage capability utilizing standard or European fusing.
  • • Regulated DC heaters for the 6 12AX7 preamp tubes provide low noise and increased tube life.

OD-100 Standard+ Top

The new and improved version of the original OD-100 that was introduced in the early-90's, the OD-100 Standard+ is the flagship of the OD-100 family of amps with amazingly huge sound and unmatched versatility from a 2CH/2EQ class of amplifiers. Channel 1 is like a great 60's Blackface – warm, sparkling and sweet on the high end, punchy on the bottom with superb definition. Channel 2 is like the best and the biggest sounding hot-rodded British overdrive and distortion tones you've ever heard. The boosted mode of CH2 is like an additional channel and the level of boost can be adjusted with the internal trim pot. Silky smooth yet with a cutting character in the high-mids and the highs to get you heard over a dense mix, the OD-100's distortion never sounds muddy or undefined. OD-100 Standard+'s overdrive and high-gain distortion characteristics can be described as "open" with a big but unobtrusive bottom end, clear and punchy midrange, and sweet singing highs. Fast in its transient attack but not hard around the edges, it faithfully articulates all the nuances of your playing style with character and musicality.

The OD-100 Standard+ now comes with the Depth and Power Amp Presence controls on the back panel. The Depth knob is essentially a low-end boost control for the power section of the OD-100 Standard+. It will provide more bottom end while retaining overall clarity. The front panel's Presence has been changed to Brilliance and it affects Channel 2 only. The Presence knob on the back panel controls the high-end response of both channels in the power amp section, easily allowing you to adjust the brightness of the amp to the surroundings of the room you are playing in without changing the EQ of the amp on the front panel.

One overlooked aspect of the OD-100 family of amps is that Channel 1 has a wide range of overdrive sounds as well, not just the clean. Engaging the manual boost switch and turning up the gain knob will produce warm and throaty overdrive sounds that are ideal for various shades of blues, jazzy fusion, and classic rock. It loves overdrive and boost pedals of all sorts and is very sensitive to changes on the volume knob of your guitar and your picking attack. This allows you to control a very wide dynamic range from squeaky clean to bluesy crunch with just a small tweak on the guitar's volume pot and your picking hand touch. How an amp responds and feels is as important to experienced players as the tone coming out of the speakers. Besides the incredible sounds of the OD-100 that are on countless hit records, it's the feel and the unparalleled touch-sensitve response of the OD-100 that makes it one of the most revered amps of all time.

OD-100 SE+ Top
OD100 SE

The OD-100 SE+ is for the high-gain freak who can never get enough gain. Based on the ultra high-gain CH3 of the renowned 3+SE rack preamp, the SE voicing and character is engaged in the boosted mode of Channel 2 of the OD-100SE. What you get is an intense yet clear distortion that is both hyper aggressive and creamy at the same time. Once again, what you put into it is what you get out of it. From 80's metal to mega shred to progressive fusion to modern alternative rock/metal, the SE covers a lot of sonic territories that require mondo amounts of gain that is still defined and musical. Artists using the OD-100 SE+ range from Reb Beach of Whitesnake to shred monster Rob Marcello to fusion master Jose De Castro to modern alternative rock band Element Eighty. What sets the OD-100 SE+ apart from the competition is the amazing string-to-string clarity even with the gain cranked all the way up. You can strum a chord and you'll be able to hear each string and each note when other amps with this much gain will only produce unintelligible mush.

Channel 1 of the OD-100 SE+ is identical to that of the Standard+, so you also get a beautiful vintage clean sound to go with the mega high-gain sound of the SE+'s CH2 boosted mode. The new improved unboosted mode of the SE+'s Channel 2 is crunch heaven with plenty of gain to spare. This unboosted mode is also ideal for use with overdrive and distortion pedals for different types of crunch and high-gain sounds that are different from the intense boosted mode of the SE+. The SE+, besides the stock Feedback (essentially a speaker dampening control) and a new circuit called the Whomp. It's a 3-way toggle on the back panel that gives you two degrees of low-midrange punch. The lowest position is bypass. The middle position gives you a moderate boost of the low-mid frequencies – providing additional punch and a huge soundscape at moderate to high volume levels. The upper position adds even more low-end and is only recommended for low-volume playing situations when you want a huge sound but can't turn up the amp too loud.

OD-100 Classic and Classic+ Top
OD100 Classic

The latest version of the OD-100 was developed when LA studio legend Mike Landau told John Suhr that he'd like the OD-100 Standard+'s Channel 2 to be like an early-70's British amp that he owned and adored. John borrowed Landau's amp and tweaked away, eventually coming up with a brand new Channel 2 and a new output section that duplicated and even surpassed the sound that Mike had come to love. The OD-100 Classic was born! The Channel 2 of the OD-100 Classic has much less gain than Channel 2 of either the OD-100 SE+ or the OD-100 Standard+. It's definitely more of a vintage voicing – like that of cranked non-master-volume amps with EL-34 output tubes – but you have the flexibility of the master volume to get that cranked sound and feel at moderate volume levels. Besides the completely new preamp circuit for Channel 2, the OD-100 Classic features the silver "Plexi-style" output transformer and EL-34 output tubes in the power section for a more authentic vintage British sound. The OD-100 Classic soon became Mike Landau's main gigging amp. Scott Henderson got to hear this new version of the OD-100 over at Mike's place and it wasn't too long before Scott got his OD-100 Standard+ converted to the Classic and he ordered one more as a backup. A little later blues virtuoso Kirk Fletcher picked one up as well.

The OD-100 Classic's Channel 1 remains the same as that of the Standard and the SE, but due to the new power section there is slightly more mids and compression. It's still a great clean sound reminiscent of the 60's Blackface sound. The Classic's Channel 2 is more raw with less gain. The low-end is tighter with a faster transient attack. The amp's response challenges you to take it by the horns and take it somewhere. This is certainly not a beginner's amp! Great players with amazing control over their instruments want the character of their playing to come through without artificial coloration from the amp and this is where the OD-100 Classic truly shines. OD-100 Classic's Channel 2 can be described as big, raw, throaty with a tough growl, organic, and touch sensitive to your playing dynamics. It's a vintage type of tone that you can tame and refine with pedals and by how you attack the guitar. It's a player's amp – an amp for the player who knows exactly what he wants out of his sound and knows how to wring out the tones he envisions with his hands.

The new OD-100 Classic+ complements the OD-100 Classic with more gain on CH2 (think early ZZ Top, late AC/DC, early Van Halen and other classic rock sounds of the 70's and early 80's) with a more forgiving response, which makes it an absolute joy to play. Both the OD-100 Classic and Classic+ models come with Feedback and Depth knobs on the back panel. The front panel has the Presence knob which controls the power amp high-end content for both channels. The Feedback knob is essentially a speaker dampening control. It has a center detent which is bypass of the Feedback circuit. Turning it clockwise from the center gives the amp a tighter and more aggressive response with slightly increased volume level. Turning it counterclockwise from center makes the amp feel a little spongier with a more vintage type of a feel and response.

The overdrive sounds of these clips are all of Mike's OD-100 Classic's CH2 without the Boost engaged. No pedals are used whatsoever. Mike went for raunchy 70's classic rock sounds on these clips.

OD-50 Top

The 50-watt version of the OD-100 Standard+, the OD-50 still has a character of its own due to the changes in the power section (different output transformer and a pair of 5881 output tubes) and a Channel 2 that's been tweaked slightly to better match the different output section. The OD-50 was developed after requests by players who found the OD-100 too overpowering for their needs. This amp retains the renowned tonal characteristics of the OD-100 Standard+ while allowing you to push the power section a little harder and having less clean headroom in Channel 1.
